I am a big fan of love. It is up there with forgiveness and gratitude as key focus areas of my life. I am not a huge fan of Valentine’s Day commercialism.
When I was single, I felt like something was wrong with me because I wasn’t part of a romantic couple. For most of my 20’s, I would have preferred to go to sleep on the 13th and wake up on the 15th and avoid the magical day of love altogether. My stance has softened a bit since then.
I’m still not a fan of the commercialism and the messages that prompt people to feel “less than” because they are not currently in a romantic relationship. These messages can lead people to loneliness and to compare themselves others, even if they are in a loving relationship. They may compare their relationship to false ideals presented to us through the media. Valentine’s Day marketing is everywhere. This weekend at the grocery store there were Valentine’s Day displays at every corner. The BE LOVE project is meant to be an antidote to the commercialism and prevalence of messages that tell us we are not good enough in the media.
I am grateful for the authentic love I have in my life. I believe that we can consciously invite love into our lives. The more we can practice loving kindness with ourselves and others, the more likely we will experience love in our day to day lives. Romantic love is only one way that love shows up in our lives. There are infinite expressions of love. My experience has shown me that when I want to experience more love in my life I can focus on the power of love and feel a shift.
How can we invite more love into our lives? I stumbled upon the Top Ten List below that was shared by Gregg Braden on his Facebook Page this weekend. It was originally created by Express your Divinity as a Top Ten New Year’s Resolution for 2013. I agree with Gregg Braden that this list is useful outside of New Years and wanted to share it here because it is a great list for bringing more love into our lives and our world.
